Evaluation of the Cultural Pathfinders Programme (UK)

The benefits of embedding culture into broader local government agendas (such as health, social cohesion, education, quality of life and economic development) were investigated in a major evaluation research conducted by Lia Ghilardi with De Montfort University. The evaluation involved a review of the impacts achieved by 12 cultural projects developed in England between 2005 and 2007. The evaluation showed that Cultural Planning approaches such as those used by the Pathfinders encouraged new partnerships and cross-disciplinary working, and offered an innovative, holistic policy model which was used to develop a sense of local identity and belonging. The evaluation also showed that the Cultural Pathfinders provided an opportunity  to share learning and create common visions of the services that local authorities can provide.
